“Mayor Brown” is the branding choice for a Conservative leadership campaign, as Brampton’s mayor drew a crowd to a launch, at which he came out against the attack dog approach of Pierre Poilievre. The optics from Patrick Brown contrast with Jean Charest being stuck on Zoom—even if his own social media compared this comeback to Tom Brady.

Justin Trudeau returned from Europe with a list of measures and investments to support Ukraine, and a social media video. But the trip received wider attention because of a question Travis Dhanraj of CBC News asked Chrystia Freeland about why she needed to be there. The reporter found the backlash too extreme.


Counting the corrections on CBC stories about the Freedom Convoy. Reports that alluded to meddling from Russia and elsewhere were amended after it was proven most donations were domestic. Meanwhile, a CBC report on B.C.-based Common Ground exposed that Heritage Canada provided funding to an anti-vaccine magazine.


The new value put on news

Heritage minister Pablo Rodriguez most recently announced a program to help bookstores grow online, as the news media continues to wait its turn for laws set to enhance funding. Australia’s comparable experience with Google cash seems to be rewarding publishers based on scale. But here’s Meta getting into journalism schools:

Bell Media isn’t putting out a press release for how its show is now performing on NBC. Transplant had its respectable ratings touted in fall 2020 as the CTV import filled time due to COVID-19 production delays. But the second season had its U.S. airing dumped on Sunday night, and the initial network ratings were NBC’s lowest in history for a scripted series.


Finally, thrashing for pensioners

Anvil released their 18th effort, Legal at Last, a month before everything got grounded in 2020. But the Toronto band made it to Germany in 2021 to add another alliteration, Impact is Imminent. Coming up on 15 years since the documentary about their persistence, this album comes with the boast of being perfected due to extra songwriting time:
