Doug Ford says he won’t demote the youngest Ontario PC MPP after Sam Oosterhoff faced calls to step aside as the parliamentary assistant to the education minister. The Niagara Falls restaurant where Oosterhoff’s own maskless packed group photo was taken responded to the backlash by explaining they tried to enforce the rules.

While some areas in Ontario are currently avoiding restrictions for all seating in restaurants and bars, the group Work Safe Twerk Safe filed an appeal over sweeping strip club closures across the province. Meanwhile in Quebec, a coalition of fitness centres announced their intention to reopen in spite of the current lockdown order.


Toronto federal bylection wins got tighter for the Liberals. Green leader Annamie Paul’s strong voter support didn’t stop Marci Ien from winning in Toronto Centre on the eve of the publication of a book she wrote while still at CTV. Liberal candidate Ya’ara Saks won a closer race in York Centre that also featured Max Bernier on the ballot.


Watching the TikTok watchers

CBC’s digital programming head, Gave Lindo, has moved to a comparable job with the short-video app, which is now working with Shopify to try and lure more merchants. Without the Hollywood expectations of Quibi, the algorithmic approach of TikTok seems a better bet to continue cultivating the concept of unlikely Canadian celebrities:

Joey Moss dead at 57. The legendary Edmonton Oilers locker room attendant was inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in 2015. He became a national figure via public service announcements co-starring Wayne Gretzky, then the boyfriend of Joey’s singing sister Vikki, that encouraged the acceptance of others with Down syndrome.


Finally, this frigid exhumation

Glenn Gould died 38 years ago at age 50, but the 2017 sale of his catalogue, name and likeness to Primary Wave Music led to the announcement of plans to send a Gould hologram on tour. And now, an album that remixes his work is drawing criticism, especially from those who believe the pianist wouldn’t approve of its explicit rap lyrics:
